In recent days, the name Dr. Rajan Mahtani is enough to attract conspiracies. A series of fake news and defamatory attempts have been made over the past months to ensure that Dr. Mahtani’s image is shifted from a pioneer to a selfish businessman. These events include fake assumptions, wrong interpretations and forgery to create an adverse situation for the Zambia based businessman.
Firstly, an article was published in the national news portal where an assumption was made that ‘After Kabimba, Mahtani could be next to fall’, the basis of this discussion was based on an assumption that Dr.Mahtani is related to the Cartel and since Wynter Kambimba, Patriotic Font Secretary and the Former Justice Minister, was fired by the President on account of his connection with the Cartel, Dr. Rajan Mahtani is the next to follow. Sadly, this news does not hold value because the accused is no longer associated with the cartel.
Secondly, a publication, ‘Mahtani Holding title deeds to State Newspapers’ insisted that Dr. Rajan Mahtani is now holding the titles deeds of the two state newspapers namely, The Times of Zambia and Zambia Daily mail. However, the truth is that both these newspaper concerns had availed loan from the Finance Bank of Zambia Ltd., of which Dr. Rajan Mahtani is the Chairperson. As per the rules, if a borrower is unable to repay the amount on time then the collateral belongs to the lender. The same instance is applicable in the present context as well and moreover, the title deeds would belong to the bank and not Dr. Mahtani.
Thirdly, the shameful event of creating fake email address in the name of Dr. Rajan Mahtani was seen some time back. A group of conspirators made an attempt to defame the accused by sending emails to other eminent personalities by the name of Dr. Rajan Mahtani. This incident is currently under investigation.
Keeping in mind the above attempts, it can be regarded that continuous attempts are being made to defame Dr. Rajan Mahtani. It is time that the pioneer of Zambia stands up for himself and takes some severe actions.
